FAQ About Placement Interviews

Is a "placement interview" the same thing as an "audition?"
Even though the definition of the word audition means "to be heard," the connotation is that at the conclusion of that process there is a decision to be made whether or not a child is "accepted." Because our philosophy is that every child who wants to sing should have the opportunity to develop and grow musically and that no child that expresses an interest is ever turned away, we choose to call this process a placement interview to avoid any common misconceptions.

What happens in a placement interview?
Our initial placement interviews are an opportunity for children to meet and begin a relationship with our artistic staff. They are an excellent avenue for gathering data about each child's vocal development, auditory ability and their current level of music literacy. No preparation is necessary as we carefully guide them through this simple, fifteen-minute process which is also crafted to build their self-esteem. At the conclusion of every concert season each chorister's yearly growth is celebrated during their individual placement interviews and their progress in documented in their personal, ongoing choral portfolio.

Where do we go for the Placement Interview?
Placement Interviews are held at Slate Hill Elementary School in Worthington. (DIRECTIONS)
